Saying hello and perhaps some questions

Talk about anything in Runes of Magic. This does not need to pertain to botting.

Saying hello and perhaps some questions

#1 Post by laughmaster » Sun Jul 28, 2013 9:05 pm

Hello all. I have been playing rom off and on for like a year or something. But I am honestly a complete noob. My highest lvl character is around 52. But that is mainly because my highest lvl character only plays with my wifes character. I have started a new solo character but he is around lvl 20.

I am quite excited to find out about this site. I used to play everquest and used macroquest with that for botting. I know nothing about botting for ROM but am very interested in learning to use it and perhaps write some bots too.

I guess mainly I am just saying hello. But if anyone out there has any advise for a ROM noob or a rombot noob then please feel free to let me know.

*wave*

This bot isn't a push 1 button and watch it go, you need to work out what you want it to do and hopefully have some understanding of coding, even just the basics.

So best advice is to start with the basics and work your way up to bigger and better things ;)
Remember no matter you do in life to always have a little fun while you are at it ;)

Thank you Lisa for the reply. I have not looked yet at how things are coded for this. But when I used macroquest I did some minor coding of my own macros as well as tweaking other ones that I got from the net. I also have experience with coding websites. Not advanced stuff mind you, but decent I think. So with these two things in my background i hope that I will be able to learn this coding as well. I look forward to checking this out and am glad I found this site.

Welcome laughmaster. Luckily Lua, the language the bot is written in, is a pretty easy language to learn and use.

Here are some links to get you started.

The RoMBot wiki, although it's a bit out of date.

The Lua wiki, although you might need to do some web searches for simple examples.
http://www.lua.org/manual/5.2/

Runes of Magic list of functions, although this also is out of date and not all the functions have descriptions.

I'm actually planning to do a major update of the RoMBot wiki once the new wikimedia Visual Editor is deployed. Here is a draft of an RoMBot installation guide I've written. Let me know if it helps.
