healer with sword stops attacking if mob runs off

Intresting problem. I was messing with a sword on a druid and attacking a mob the mobs ran out of range for a bit then came back and the druid did not start attacking with sword again. The druid was out of mana and mana pots so it could not use spells.
It Just seems that if druids, mages, priests or warlocks run out of mana they need to try to do manual attack to stay alive.
