hmm Anet security fail?

Ok so my password for guild wars 2 is unique and nothing like any other passwords I use for anything.

I just got the email notification, legit email, asking for email confirmation of a login which only occurs if you have correct login and password.
So somehow someone has gotten my email address and password for my GW2 account, the email thing obviously stopped them and so no issues on my account.

I used to hate that email confirmation thing but it has now saved 1 of my accounts.
A log-in attempt from the following location is currently awaiting your authorization.

Address: 120.14.220.81
City: Heibei
Region: 19
Country: CN
very far away from where I live lol

Without stating what your password is, for obvious reasons, can you tell me more about it? I just want to know pretty standard stuff like did it contain common english words, or nonsense? Upper case and lowercase characters? Numbers or special characters? How many characters in total?

I also received one of these long ago and since changed my email and password for the account. I suspected that the email I got was actually a phishing attempt, but updated things anyways through the official site. The password was random numbers and letters, 12 characters in length, and very unlikely to have been brute forced.

completely random, as in just mashed face on keyboard and there is the password. I seriously doubt they got it from basically attempting to log in repeatedly, I seriously think Anet had a security issue and acc/passwords have been aquired by someone.

I changed password of course.

That account I rarely even log, it has 1 char which is still under lvl 40.

That happens to me so often wheh I log in (in fact happens when my ip changes, so I try not to reset my router unless its absolutely necessary). seems I have chosen that security protection as they say, but I dont remember such question when I created my account, and I didn't found yet how to disable that security comprobation in my account profile. I think we will have to live with it by the momment.

when you log in you can choose to add that IP to a list of IP's it won't send an email for anymore. I only get the emails now if someone else tries to access my account.

You can have the notification removed but there is a process to do it and to be honest I am now glad about the email notifications because it seems their security is lacking...

so it's been a long time since I even logged into GW2, I decided to update the game and log in and see what's new. I managed to remember 1 password and so logged into 1 account, can't remember the other password at all for my other account. Says I can reset it if I put in email address, serial code, character name. First 2 are easy as they are int he email you get when you buy it, as for a characters name, no idea. Might update a different PC and see if it has the login saved to log in and then see a characters name lmao.

Anyway so I logged in on 1 account and I can't help but notice chars are still lvl 80 and doing the same events that they were when I last logged off, like 6 months ago. So is there anything new and exciting? probably not =(

--=== Added ===--

HAHA I still had in game mail from my other account so I got a char name that way =)

About once a month I get an email about new content they have added to the game.

Most recently, Sky Pirates of Tyria - June 25th
A new story dungeon takes you deep inside an Aetherblade base to track down the pirate captain Mai Trin and Horrik, her cannon-wielding first mate. You can also find your way into an Aetherblade base hidden in a holographic mountain to test your skills in a new permanent jumping puzzle!
They've also added a few new PVP maps awhile back and I don't even remember what else.
