Remove Runes of Magic Graphics (Remove Spell Effects)

Someone asked about this in a thread that was in offtopic of the general forum and I remembered how nice it was before my last harddrive crash to not have to deal with the choppiness of unwanted graphics being loaded. (http://www.solarstrike.net/phpBB3/viewt ... =13&t=2209)
  • What this does:
    The way Runes of Magic client loads it's graphics is from a compressed file that contains a directory structure from prepackaging. With this mod, you place a folder in the Runes of Magic directory that contains the directory structure and files that the compressed file does. The client will load the folder items that are present instead of the compressed ones (any missing from the folders will be loaded from the compressed file).

    Within this folder, several of the "sparkly" graphics have been replaced by blank files. This, at the very least, takes away the load time for the graphics that cause the client to temporarily freeze.
Note:
  • This does not cover all the different graphics in the game and a it is pretty old so all the new graphics that have been added probably haven't been removed. If you download this and find graphics that we might also not want, please post the list of files back to this forum so we know which ones to turn off.

If anyone is wondering how to get into these files you can try the one I've attached here.

I used this ages ago and extracted all the XML and LUA code for RoM. I haven't tested it on these image files yet but I will now.

The site I downloaded this from is long gone and I can't find a link online anywhere, that doesn't lead to a non-existant page.

I just posted that and the language converter on another post just recently. Maybe they need to be placed somewhere for easy access like the repository.

Yes, I think that file would be an excellent tool to add. I really haven't been able to find any other FDB-Extractors that don't require your shoe size, a blood sample, and a biopsy of your liver for the free trial.

I was never able to find them. Instead a friend gave them to me.

I think I will add them to the repository.

errr... maybe its me, but i thought they had made a option to disable the effect?

in graphic options if i recall correctly.

Me too. I never said anything because I didn't know if the effect of using that option would be the same.

It would be nice if that were true. With the setting you set, do you not see the shining lights of special effects?

Never used it myself, I just happened to notice it once. I just had another look. It says "Hide the effects of other players". Does that sound like it does the same thing?

Just going by wording I see the difference. The option being discussed says about "other players". I would assume that the boss and environmental effects would still be enabled creating lag. With the removespelleffects method it has the ability to also disable boss and environmental effects.

No, this replaces the data for the effect with a blank file. One of the effects that is removed is the PK bubble, you'll never see that ugly yellow thing again. (if you play pvp anyways) When I find it, I'll let you know which of the files are the sparkle effects from looting. This should remove all the strain from not looting chicken eggs right away.

I also want to remove the sparkle effects from the different harvest nodes, the visual effect of water (and waterfalls), and anything that gives off that aura looking thing.

Also, when you look in the texture files you see there's a ridiculous amount of textures for each type of character. I'm thinking (mostly for entertainment purposes) of replacing most of them with blank files and using white block people in place of normal character textures.

I got the removespelleffects "addon" and it works fine. But I get those laggspikes/lagg when the zone name pops up, example "Thunderhoff Hills, Dalanis Old District etc etc". Is there any way we make those disappear?
And one more question, what does the FDB Extractor do, what is it for?
